MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE FOR CERAMIC TILED FLOORS

INTRODUCTION

Porcelain and other unglazed ceramic floor tiles provide a hard wearing and easy to clean surface in almost every commercial and industrial situation. These stain resistant and hardwearing tiles should be virtually maintenance -free in any location. They are available in a flexible range of patterns and designs, and in two basic textures:

• A machine polished high shine finish, and
• A matt or textured eggshell finish.

The cleaning and treatment of these tiles is similar to that for unglazed ceramic tiles, but there are some important differences. We recommend application of the appropriate Lithofin products to ensure that the tiles live up to their reputation for low maintenance and easy cleaning.

BUILDERS CLEAN

Lithofin KF Cement Residue Remover is used to clean off cement stains from tiling, grouting and other building work, which once hardened will not be removed during any normal cleaning procedure. Due to its mild odour, Lithofin KF Cement Residue Remover is particularly suitable for indoor use.

Dilute Lithofin KF Cement Residue Remover approx. 1:5 to 1:15 depending on the stubbornness of the deposits. Apply the solution to the wet surface with a wiping cloth or a wet and dry vac. Rinse will with clear water.

Please Note: Always test the product in an inconspicuous area prior to use.

ROUTINE DAILY MAINTENANCE

It is recommended that a sealant be used polished porcelain tiles. On polished porcelain tiles, the impregnator will last for as long as the tile retains its surface constitution, and will remain permanently within the tile if it is adequately maintained. Polished porcelain tiles will require little if any maintenance with alkaline or neutral detergents.

Lithofin Easy Care can be used for daily or weekly routine maintenance. The product will not damage sealers and is suitable for any natural or artificial stone, ceramics or terracotta, regardless of whether the surface are naturally rough or polished, untreated or sealed, glazed or absorbent.

Directions: Lithofin Easy Care is always added to the water used for washing at the rate of one squeeze per bucket. Rather more should be used for the first applications or for porous surfaces or to remove heavier soiling. Do not wash with clear water afterwards.

Tiled surfaces in shower areas may require a more thorough routine cleaning because of a buildup of soap scum, body oil or hard-water stains. Use the usual clean, damp cloth or sponge with an all-purpose cleaner, but allow it to stand for about five minutes before rinsing and drying. (You may also use a solution of equal parts of water and white vinegar* or Lithofin Easy Care.

Here's a hint on how to keep shower walls mildew-free: clean regularly with a tile cleaner or fungicide such as Lysol or ammonia. Dry with a towel after each use and leave curtain or door open between showers.

A deep cleaning operation should be carried out periodically with Lithofin Wexa. This mildly alkaline cleaner thoroughly removes all oily and fatty soiling such as wax-films, floor polish, oil and fat stains, spots of rubber and tar, fresh spray-paint as well as general dirt.

Lithofin Wexa can be used everywhere for domestic and industrial use, inside and outside.

Directions: Depending on cleaning task dilute with water between 1:4 and 1:20, apply and allow to work for 5-20 minutes. Scrub surface lightly during this period, but do not allow product to dry out. In obstinate situations, repeat the process or, possibly, use product less diluted or allow a longer period of treatment with brushing. Afterwards wipe up the dirty water and rinse surface with copious amounts of clean

water.

SUMMARY

1. Initial deep (builders) clean: Lithofin KF Cement Residue Remover to clean off cement stains.

2. Normal regular maintenance: Lithofin Easy Care

3. Periodic deep cleaning: Lithofin Wexa

4. If using products other than those recommended, ensure that you use a neutral cleaner (ph7) to avoid causing damage to the surface of the tile.
